(West End) -- Construction starts this week on a new protected bike lane along Central Parkway. The lane will stretch from Elm Street, Downtown to Marshall Avenue, in University Heights.
Crews will widen the street in a couple of places to preserve on-street parking, in front of the Brighton-Mohawk Building, and in the 2300 block of Central Parkway. They've already built bus stop "islands".
The protected lane will be at least 5-feet wide, and will be separated from the rest of traffic by a 3-foot buffer zone.
Stripes should be painted by next week.
