(Mason, Ohio) – Riders on the Diamondback, Racer and Banshee roller coasters Sunday at Kings Island were in it for more than the thrills as they participated in the park’s annual “Coasting for Kids” event, which raised more than $20,000 for Give Kids the World (GKTW), a central Florida nonprofit “storybook” resort that provides cost-free, weeklong vacations to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families from around the world. The adrenaline-pumping event offered coaster enthusiasts complimentary park admission, a “Coasting for Kids” t-shirt, lunch and unlimited rides during select time frames on the participating roller coasters.
More than 100 roller coaster enthusiasts representing 11 different states raised the minimum of $75 or more to participate in the event at Kings Island. Chelsey Ray from Plainfield, IN ($1,860), Taylor Finn from Coraopolis, PA ($1,555) and Joshua Bell from Pilot Mountain, NC ($1,000) were the park’s top three fundraisers.
Coasting for Kids is a company-wide effort at all 11 Cedar Fair Entertainment Company parks.
