Get Your Cedar Deck Ready For Cool Weather

Whether we want to admit it, or not, cool weather is coming.  That means the early snow fall in October all the way to the last flake in March.  Cold weather is going to be here before we know it, and the best thing to do is to prepare.  Cedar decks are very susceptible to damage during the winter months.  DoItYourself.Com does a great job at mapping out exactly what you need to do to get your deck ready.

One thing they discuss is simply cleaning your deck.  By scrubbing in between the boards and releasing all of that dirt from the cracks, it allows the boards to be better ventilated, which in turn will keep them dry.  Also, removing debris from your deck can improve its health.  Dirty leaves, old bark and things such as berries or nuts can leave stains all over your cedar, which can become permanent.  A great finish on your deck can greatly increase its lifespan as well, or even simply covering it during the cool months.

Whether you have a deck you want to protect, or are thinking about building one before it gets cold, these are some great tips and tricks that every builder should know.  For more on this article - Read More
