•   2 cups sugar
  •   1/2 cup shortening
  •   2 eggs
  •   1 teaspoon vanilla
  •   2 cups cake flour
  •   6 tablespoons cocoa
  •   1/2 cup sour milk
  •   7/8 cup boiling water
  •   1 1/8 teaspoons baking soda
  •   Cream the shortening and sugar.

Add the 2 eggs, one at a time, beating well. Add vanilla

Sift together the flour and cocoa. Add alternately with the milk. Mix well.

Stir soda into boiling water and add slowly, stirring.

Pour into 2- 9" greased and floured cake pans.

Bake in a preheated 375 °F. oven for 25 minutes.

Frost with caramel or chocolate frosting.
