Artist from India at Contemporary Arts Center, Now to May 5
Atul Dodiya is one of most prominent figures of contemporary Indian art. His most recent artwork is created on metal shutters of store fronts salvaged from the streets of Mumbai. The artist invites viewers to interact with the pieces – to open and close the shutter with its original pulley mechanism in order to see all of the work since both the front and interior of the shutter is painted. In Mumbai, the shutter is a symbol of security and marks the sharp change in the city between day and night. Atul Dodiya was born in 1959 in Mumbai. He has shown his artwork extensively around the world. This is his first museum solo exhibition in the US.
