Here is your at home tip for today! I'm Gary Sullivan. There are many problems you may encounter when owning a home, but one that really grinds things to a halt is when the dishwasher will not drain properly.

If your dishwash isn't draining the way it should then the drain hose may be stopped up. To check, remove all the water from the tub. A Wet-Vac works well for this. After the water is gone, remove the drain hose (even though you removed the water there will still be water in the pump) from the house plumbing and the dishwasher. Check for obstructions and remove. If you just installed a new garbage disposal, check that the metal knockout was removed. Check the air gap and make sure it is not clogged with debris or the high loop (if this is not right then your dishwasher will siphon water back into it.
